No. But inches will redistribute. Muscles that were sagging before will begin to lift, especially your butt and your thighs. This could give you the illusion that your muscles are getting bigger but in fact your muscles are just toning!
Q: Will my muscles get bigger from doing Barre Evolution?
Q: If I take three Barre Evolution classes per week, do I still need to do cardio?
Maybe. It depends on why you do cardio. If weight loss is your goal, adding additional cardiovascular activities & a healthy diet can speed up your results.
Q: How does a Barre Evolution class differ from a Lotte Berk or other modern barre-based class?
Barre Evolution focuses on positioning and alignment and balances strengthening work with stretching and flexibility. Lotte Berk-style classes focus on speed, repetitions and a majority of the time spent on strengthening exercises with a minimal amount of stretching.
Q: How much yoga and Pilates are in a Barre Evolution class?
Our classes are non-competitive and non-comparative. Like Yoga and Pilates there is a strong emphasis on breathing and mind body focus. We use a neutral spine in most of our standing positions and we incorporate the principles of Pilates in our work: centering, flow, breathing, control, concentration, and precision.
Q: What is the fastest way to see results from a Barre Evolution class?
Consistency, consistency, consistency!! We recommend 2-3 classes per week to see results within 4 to 6 weeks. However, if your current workout plan is not giving you the results you desire we suggest stopping your current regime and taking our Barre Evolution Challenge. During this challenge you would take Barre Evolution classes for one month as many times per week as you were exercising before and then analyze the results. We bet you will see such significant changes that you’ll want to continue to come several times per week.
Q: How do I know what level or class to take?
All students should start with our Open level classes. Instructors always show students how to work at a beginner intermediate or advanced/super advanced level. We also offer private & semi-private classes as well, if you have any special needs to address or want to just understand the movements more before attending a class.
Q: Will Barre Evolution help me lose weight?
Most people ask how many calories do you burn in the 60-minute class? The answer is that calorie expenditure is directly dependent on the percentage of lean muscle mass that you have in your body. Barre Evolution classes 3 times per week will give you the long, lean, sculpted muscles that increase lean muscle mass. Barre Evolution strengthening exercises are more effective in developing LEAN muscle mass than weight lifting because you are using your own body weight as resistance. The stretching that immediately follows the strengthening will prevent muscle bulk and enables you to increase flexibility and range of motion.
Q: What do you do in a Barre Evolution Class?
The 60-minute class begins with a warm up that includes upper body weight work, planks and pushups. This is followed by thigh, glute and abdominal exercises at the ballet barre. The abdominals are further strengthened and toned with intense core conditioning and the thighs and glutes are again sculpted with thigh and back dancing. Deep, isometric stretches are used to fully stretch and lengthen muscles after each set of exercises. Barre Evolution classes offer personalized attention to ensure correct posture and alignment. Classes are non-impact and the pace is very athletic weaving from strengthening to stretching exercises nonstop like interval training. NO classical ballet experience is necessary.
Q: Who should take a Barre Evolution class?
Barre Evolution is for almost anybody. This transformational fitness class produces quick results and can completely re-shape and tone the body, increase performance in other sports and help you to rehabilitate minor injuries. In addition, Barre Evolution classes are non-impact, emphasize deep stretching and flexibility and produce a long, lean, youthful body.
